Ware Malcomb Announces Construction Is Complete on the University of Southern California Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work
LOS ANGELES June 27, 2017 – Ware Malcomb, an award-winning international design firm based in Southern California, today announced construction is complete on the University of Southern California Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work located at 1150 S. Olive Street, 11th Floor in Los Angeles. Ware Malcomb provided interior architecture and design services for the project.
Ware Malcomb has completed over a dozen projects, including office and retail, for the University of Southern California (USC), one of the world’s leading private research universities. The USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work is a leader in social work and nursing education and research. The school integrates the science of social work with real-world practice to improve the well-being of vulnerable individuals, communities, and advance social and economic justice on a local, national and global scale.
The 16,900 square foot project united several departments within the university’s Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work onto the 11th floor of the USC City Center. A modern space was designed to connect the teams that help others through an academic discipline that promotes change and development, while also capturing the USC brand and spirit.
The design team implemented a universal layout with consistent-sized offices and workstations customized to the building footprint. This provided flexibility for groups to expand and contract, or move in and out of the floor easily. A combination of open and private offices was chosen to embrace the latest workplace trends while maintaining traditional office aesthetics and providing necessary privacy. Lower workstations were used to allow viewpoints from one end of the office to the other, creating an open and collaborative environment with incredible downtown views.
A large multi-purpose room serves as the hub of the space, featuring a complex array of audio/visual requirements including four 2 x 2 screens used for various presentation needs. The flexible room is designed to be used as a conference room, classroom, collaboration area, and large social space.
Located in the LEED Gold-Certified USC City Center, many sustainable design features were incorporated within the space including low volatile organic content in the interior finishes, tile with renewable content, high-efficiency HVAC mechanical systems, and LED lighting.
Ware Malcomb’s design team also helped define the design standards for the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work’s Masters Program.

We have designed a space that will meet the needs of the school and faculty, so that they can focus on their primary mission of educating and serving others.”
The General Contractor for this project, and for over a dozen previous projects Ware Malcomb has completed for USC, was Warner Constructors.
